Covid-19 induced lockdown effect on rainfall and biodiversity

Covid-19 induced lockdown effect on rainfall and biodiversity

The severe epidemics of Covid -19 started in early November 2019, since then many new variants emerged in several parts of world. The latest one is omicron variant considered responsible for third wave.

In India, the lockdown enforced in March 2020 with frequent unlock or lockdown in many parts of country.

Overall, it seems that there is decline in economic growth, employment opportunities, and unfortunate increase in deaths of loved one.

I believe, due to uncertainty of Covid 19, appearance of new variants, fear amongst people to invest, there seems to be no expansion, reduced industrial growth and more or less no growth in all the sectors. As a consequence, during the last two years 2020 and 2021 there may have been decreased pollution.

It is, therefore, there may have been effect on rainfall intensity and rainfall pattern, temperature fluctuations, number of cloudy days, and effects on species biodiversity.

I hypothesis, if the Covid - 19 induced lockdown decreases pollution then (a) there would be more number of cloudy days, (b) frequent fluctuations in atmospheric temperature, (3) above average rainfall or change in rainfall pattern, and (d) increase in species population or shift in population.

The increase in number of cloudy days, or sudden change in atmospheric temperature in drier parts (cool temperature associated with humidity) may result slow agriculture growth, whereas good yield some parts. However, I feel there may be change in agriculture pattern than usual before 2019.

As far as in many parts of Maharashtra is concerned, I believe, there seems to be increased pests, disease and physiological problems in many crops.

I feel that the agriculture will experience same challenges in 2022 too, even if world gets free from Covid - 19.
